A Glimpse Into Our Journey

We're Wanderwood. We are a compassionate couple with Wanderlust hearts who lives by the faith of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Heather was previously the owner of her own photography business, HW Photography, where she solely offered photography sessions to her clients. De'Voreaux has a past in AV and Videography.

After getting engaged, we decided to combine our skillset and re-brand to "Wanderwood". We came up with the name by combining 'Wanderlust' and 'Dogwood', which are both symbolic to who we identify as as a couple. Wanderlust means "a strong desire to travel". Our goal in life is to become financially free and be able to travel the world and see as many sights as we can while collecting memories rather than materialistic items. 'Dogwood' of course comes from the Dogwood tree, which not only happens to be North Carolina's state tree (where Heather is proudly from), but legend has it that the Dogwood tree was both cursed and blessed by God the day Jesus Christ was crucified. The petals of the blooms are in the shape of a cross and the red tips on the blooms are said to be symbolic of Jesus' blood that he shed for our sins.

We formally established Wanderwood in July of 2023 and plan on continuing to expand our horizons by offering additional services with our growth. We look forward to this adventure and we're so glad to include you in a part of our journey.

It's so nice to meet you!

I’m Heather.

I was born & raised in Western North Carolina & currently live in Mineral Wells, TX. I have been behind a lens as long as I can remember.

At a young age I realized just how much sentimental the value a picture held. It happened when my parents showed me our old family photos of the previous generations.  I became fascinated with looking at the photos & watching my sister and I on VHS home family videos. I loved the idea of making time stand still for years to come. I knew then, I wanted to capture as many memories as possible.

The first camera I took a picture with was an Polaroid in the mid 1990s. “It was the coolest thing since sliced bread”. I mean, come on! Talk about technology! How cool was it to take a picture, have it print out instantly,  and after waving it around for a few seconds, you had your masterpiece in your hand. I was amazed.

Throughout the years, I had numerous disposable cameras that I would fill up in minutes! I remember posing all of my stuffed animals just to get “the perfect shot”.  When I got a bit older, I upgraded when my mom bought my sister & I a camera that had rechargeable batteries & a “lifetime” deal where you could get free film if we continued to take it to a drug store called Eckerd to have the photos developed. I LOVED that thing!

Then, a few years later, my dad bought me a digital camera that had a built in lens and a “zoom” feature… IT COULD ZOOM! I was intimidated by it & had no clue how to use it but LOVED taking pictures of me & my friends! We would get “dressed up” just to take hundreds of pictures during our sleepovers throughout middle & high school.

Flash forward to 2015. My mom got a Nikon & would let me borrow it from time to time for “real photo shoots”. Her & my stepdad were my first clients. I had them come over to my house at the time and get a little close while posing for the camera. After that, I began offering my services out for free to allow myself time to learn various poses & techniques when working with clients. I fell in love with seeing everyone’s emotions when I presented them with my work.

In 2019 I FINALLY  broke down & bought my very own camera. It was a Canon 80D, and came with a few lenses. After doing more free sessions for family & friends, I landed my first PAID client! I couldn’t believe it!!! I was anxious, but my excitement outweighed it all. Eventually, I even booked a wedding! A WEDDING!

That’s when I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, I wanted to pursue photography as a side hustle with the goal to eventually turn it into my very own business. Soooooo I’m going to say it loud for the people in the back THE TIME HAS COME! My business is official, official! It may have taken a few years, but I couldn’t be happier to see what the future holds & what God has in store. Every opportunity that comes my way brings challenges that pushes me to learn & progress every step of the way. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

My passion is TRULY in helping you make time stand still for generations to come. Thank you all for your continued love & support!

I was born & raised in Dallas, Texas and currently live in Mineral Wells, TX. I have always enjoyed tinkering with things and have had a love for electronics.

Back in 2013 I worked at PSAV and that is when I grew even fonder of all electronics and the art of creating something magical with the right audio, video, and lighting. I got to witness my project manager build a drone from the ground up and capture amazing footage of a concert and that’s when I knew I wanted to have one of my own one day.

In 2015 I produced & directed my very own play at my church. Seeing it all come together gave me the best feeling of accomplishment. It was truly inspiring to see everyone’s reactions to the art that I had created and to see how much they enjoyed it. The feeling I felt was indescribable.

In 2020 I met the love of my life, Heather, and saw her passion for photography. My passion in life is to help others so obviously, I helped push her to invest in herself and work on her business, HW Photography. She in turn motivated me to make my dreams a reality.

I knew one day I wanted to become a vlogger and share content I create with others.

In 2022 we bought our first drone, and flying it came naturally (I’m pretty sure I can thank video games for that). I loved seeing the world from a different viewpoint and had so much fun testing it out. In early 2023, I officially got my drone pilot’s license and that’s when I decided to dive into Aerial Photography and Videography.

I can’t wait to capture and produce something for you!
